DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
Butte College's Advanced Manufacturing Department will serve our community by providing diverse experiential learning opportunities in a progressive curriculum, using advanced technology, industry cooperation, and alumni support to prepare students for productive futures in the Manufacturing industry. This program will be designed for students to earn small industry recognized certificates. Students will also have the opportunity to earn an A.S. degree. The curriculum is designed to teach students about the manufacturing process from design to finish. This will be accomplished using industry principles and practices during the process of production. Courses offered in this degree will utilize manual, semi-automatic, and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment operations. Hands-on experience, industry tours, and internships will be utilized to train students on the principles and practices used in the advanced manufacturing industry.

POSITION DUTIES:

In addition to the responsibilities of the classification description, the specific position is also responsible for:
  1. Teaching a full load of courses in Advanced Manufacturing to prepare students for careers in the high-tech fabrication and manufacturing industries. Special emphasis will be placed on quality craftsmanship and safety practices in the industry setting.
  2. Developing and teaching a full range of classes, which may include the following topics: programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Computer Numerical Control (CNC)cutting, forming, and machining, robotic welding, design software, product design and development.
  3. Maintaining a clean and well-organized shop.
  4. Setting shop standards for students, support staff, and volunteers that will ensure quality training and education.
  5. Working with classified and other support staff.
  6. Recruiting students for the Advanced Manufacturing program.
  7. Representing the college and the Advanced Manufacturing program by participating in community and national organizations that enhance the manufacturing and fabrication industries.
  8. Staying current with state-of-the-art CNC machining, forming, welding, robotic welding, and other manufacturing technologies.
  9. Developing curriculum and lab projects based on the needs of industry partners and local business partners.
  10. Participation in articulation and career education activities.
  11. Scheduling of course offerings for program.
  12. Working with advisory members and holding annual meetings.

Representative Duties

The full-time college instructor is responsible for effective performance in the following areas:

A. General Scope of Responsibilities
  1. Excellence in teaching and instruction.

  4. Contribution to the College as a whole in the form of College- wide service.

B. Teaching and Instruction - The following duties are representative of the kinds of expectations that are normally required of a full-time Butte College instructor. Certain duties are common to the everyday operational needs of the College while other activities may be required on an as needed basis. All of the duties, however, are common requirements at various times for full-time instructional positions.
  1. Plans for and initiates curriculum improvements.
  2. Plans for and is continually well prepared to teach.
  3. Provides organized delivery of instruction.
  4. Is courteous to and approachable by students.
  5. Instruction is consistent with the stated and approved goals and content of the course.
  6. Sticks to the subject matter of the course.
  7. Shows enthusiasm for the subject matter.
  8. Uses effective motivation to create a personal desire to learn the subject/skill(s).
  9. Uses standards of student evaluation that are clear, fair and followed consistently throughout the course.
  10. Requires levels of instructor and student effort sufficient to the mastery of the subject or skills in the course.
  11. Grades and returns student assignments and tests in a reasonable period of time.
  12. Makes effective use of teaching aids and materials required of students (e.g., texts, manuals, etc.).
  13. Is effective as a teacher.
  14. Prepares complete course outlines and syllabi.
  15. Continually revises and updates course content and materials of instruction.
  16. Coordinates course contents and methods with other teachers in the program/discipline.
  17. Meets and assists students during office hours or by appointment or at other reasonable times.
  18. Initiates and carries through with improvements to course contents and methods.
  19. Initiates and/or participates in overall department-wide program development, maintenance, evaluation, revision and/or expansion.


C. Professional Growth and Currency
  1. Instructors are required to show examples of activities which demonstrate a pattern of academic, professional, and/or technical updating or currency.


D. Area or Departmental Responsibilities
  1. Is knowledgeable about and abides by College policies and procedures. This includes the accurate and timely submission of all reports, grades and paper work.
  2. Meets deadlines and time targets.
  3. Orders instructional materials, equipment and textbooks with sufficient lead times.
  4. Assists in scheduling.
  5. Assists in course staffing functions.
  6. Provides assistance and help to other full-time, part-time and/or new instructors.
  7. Coordinates plans and activities with others.
  8. Provides information for the development of departmental budgets.
  9. Monitors expenditures to keep within authorized budget spending appropriations.
  10. Exercises good judgment in the use of and/or management of facilities, equipment and supplies.
  11. Attends assigned meetings as requested.
  12. Is punctual to assigned meetings.
  13. Works well with peers, classified staff and administration.
  14. In general, is easy and cooperative to work with.
  15. Does their fair share of outside of class departmental duties and responsibilities, including contributing to unit plan and program review processes.


E. College-wide Service - Demonstrates a pattern of College-wide service including one or more of the following:
  1. Volunteers to serve on College committees.
  2. When requested, serves on College committees and project teams.
  3. Serves as a sponsor to student clubs and organizations.
  4. Participates in faculty/college governance.
  5. Participates on special project teams or ad hoc committees.


F. DEIA Self-Reflection Statement

Each faculty member will prepare aa Self-Reflection statement using the approved format as described in Appendix G2. This statement is intended to foster a conversation among colleagues that reflects on how faculty can individually and collectively work to improve student outcomes for historically under-represented and disproportionately impacted populations. The self-reflection statement should be used to help advance individual professional development and institutional dialogue on change.

G. The education, experience, aptitudes, skills, etc., for instructional positions differ by type of academic or vocational program. Refer to job announcements for specific job specifications.

H. For Cal Works instructors only, Section 7.2.1(D) 15 and Section 7.2.1(E) 2 together mean: Works closely with public employment and training service agencies to coordinate instruction and curriculum.

Qualifications/Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience OR
  • Possession of a current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in the applicable discipline OR

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of and experience with industrial methods in an advanced manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and Robotic Welding.
  • Knowledge of and experience with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards in manufacturing, automation and safety.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in the field of Advanced Manufacturing, Robotic Welding, or a closely related technical field.
  • NIMS certification or equivalent in any of the following: Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Machining Levels 1 and 2, Metal forming levels 1, 2, and 3.
  • Fanuc or other robotic training and/or certification.
  • Experience working with operating software for cutting, forming, robotic welding, and machining operations.
  • Coursework or experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Certification in any of the following: Solidworks, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), MasterCAM, etc.
  • Current membership in professional industry organizations.
  • Experience teaching or training in an educational setting or workshop.
