ABOUT THE POSITION
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure track Welding Instructor commencing with the fall 2021 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves classroom and laboratory instruction in all aspects of welding. This includes but is not limited to SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW welding and Oxyacetylene welding and cutting. This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, OR, an Associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR meet equivalent qualifications established by the District, AND
Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
At least 2 years of recent experience teaching welding to college students, especially at a community college.
Educational and/or instructional preparation in welding.
Ability and willingness to participate in the development of Welding classes for industry professional and certificate programs.
Currently certified as an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector OR the ability and desire to become certified within 12 months of hire date.
Recent experience with Lincoln Electric/FANUC Robotic Welders.
Evidence of student success in teaching Welding.
Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in a post-secondary setting.
Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of a diverse and frequently underprepared student population.
Evidence of the ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
Evidence of an ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge level (developmental through transfer) and personality of each individual and class.
Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidenced-based assessment of student learning.
Evidence of innovation, scholarship, or leadership in the teaching of Welding.
Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.
Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
Commitment to the Mission and Strategic Objectives of Long Beach Community College District.
Ability to work with computers, and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and on-line courses, and use intrinsic motivation and ability to develop and teach on-line courses (where academically appropriate).
