Job Summary


Job Summary:

The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) is seeking a Technical Business Analyst II/III to support and enhance enterprise applications including PeopleSoft, Gideon Taylor, and Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) / Grants & Contracts Accounting (GCA) web applications.

This role partners with business stakeholders, end users, and developers to analyze operations, document and communicate requirements, translate user needs into user stories and technical specifications, and create process flows and other project documentation that support solution design and delivery. In addition to requirements and analysis work, this position may also create and modify technical forms, configure system functionality, and implement low-code or similar technical solutions to meet business needs.

The Technical Business Analyst plays an important role throughout the system development lifecycle, from discovery and design through testing, training, and deployment, and applies independent judgment to help align technical solutions with business and compliance needs.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, a solid understanding of financial and/or research administration systems, and the ability to translate complex business needs into technical requirements.

Job Description:


Translate the product vision into detailed specifications for the development team. Align information technology systems with business operations by analyzing and developing innovative solutions. Engage end users and stakeholders to document and communicate organization's requirements. Translate organization's requirements and user needs into user stories. Create and update documentation of detailed technical specifications and project plans. Present user requirements, functional specifications, technical specifications, and process flow diagrams to the development team. Participate in meetings to clarify requirements, create design approaches, provide training, and answer questions from the development team. Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline. Conduct complex, important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Technical Business Analyst, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Technical Business Analyst, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills for both technical and non technical users
  • Web application design and implementation
  • Experience with Gideon Taylor eForms.
  • Analytical thinking with the ability to analyze requirements and establish protocols.
