Assistant Technical Director



Coastal Carolina University, Department of Theatre, seeks an Assistant Technical Director. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month staff position in the Department of Theatre.



The Department of Theatre at Coastal Carolina University, accredited by NAST (National Association of Schools of Theatre), invites applications for a full-time Assistant Technical Director. This is a 12-month staff position to begin October 16, 2021. The Department offers a B.F.A. degree in Theatre Arts with concentrations in Musical Theatre, Acting, Physical Theatre, and Design & Production, as well as a B.A. degree in Theatre. Located in Conway, South Carolina, just 9 miles from Myrtle Beach, this highly collaborative and rigorous department maintains a 4-5 production mainstage season, in addition to new works and staged readings in our Maymester series to connect students with working professionals. Department faculty maintain professional careers in their respective disciplines and assist students in seeking summer employment. Senior B.F.A. performance students participate in a New York Showcase for industry professionals and Physical Theatre students spend a year abroad in Italy. Coastal Carolina University offers many other study-abroad opportunities for students and faculty.



We seek an ambitious, energetic, and quality driven professional with the ability to communicate with and mentor students. The successful candidate will support the Technical Director (TD) in managing the daily operation of the Theatre Arts Production Studio (TAPS). The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) will work primarily with the TD on pre-production work, assist with the supervision and directly participate in the implementation of scenic construction, scenic painting, and prop processes, lead load-in and strikes of all assigned events, assist the TD with the day-to-day operations of the scene shop, and provide carpentry work for all productions in the CCU season. The preferred applicant will possess the ability to read theatrical plans, supervise crews of up to 10 including potential professional and student workers, and be familiar and proficient in basic carpentry and welding.



Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and theatre related experience are required. Master Electrician experience; carpentry; welding; theatre automation; pneumatics; props crafts and sound design/technology experience are preferred.
