Salary for Announcement

This is a 0.83 FTE, 10-month position. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Position Summary

The Accessibility Technology Specialist assists and supports the Assistant Director of Accessibility Technology and Testing in overseeing aspects of operations concerning assistive technology and alternatively formatted materials for students with qualifying disabilities. This includes planning and developing standards and workflows to ensure students receive legally mandated accommodations in accordance with state and federal laws and providing consultation, training, and troubleshooting to students in both alternatively formatted materials and assistive technologies. Additionally, this position serves as a leader in managing various alternative format projects, as well as assisting in various facets of the operations of the department.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists with alternative format production workflows, including data tracking.
  • Remediates or converts documents into accessible formats based on student accessibility needs.
  • Utilizes graphic editing software to create tactile graphics.
  • Provides training to students regarding the use of alternative formats, assistive technology, and other academic software.
  • Assists with training and acts as a team lead for production student staff.
  • Support other office needs, as necessary.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment and computer software, including but not limited to Windows OS and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new processes, software applications, and devices quickly
  • Demonstrated experience with customer service
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with regard to technology
  • Ability to work both independently with little direction and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively relate to a diverse, urban population and community including but not limited to communities of color, LGBTQIA+, first-generation, undocumented, second language learners, and other under-represented groups
  • Experience providing training on technical concepts to individuals of varying skill levels
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly regarding the use of access technology or alternative formats
  • Experience working with various assistive technologies, including but not limited to Read&Write, JAWS, and ZoomText
  • Experience with creating or remediating instructional materials for accessibility
  • Familiarity with accessibility principles and standards
  • Experience maintaining discretion and confidentiality in and outside the workplace
  • Experience working in a higher education setting

  • This position has hybrid schedule possibilities
