Job Description:
Support technical communication in project-based programs in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology. Develop and deliver curricula to improve student practitioner's technical communication. Assess technical work, primarily in the form of written documents and presentations, for communication effectiveness. Provide feedback to student practitioners during the activities of writing and presentation development to support iterative improvement processes. Provide real world contextualization that connects technical communication effectiveness to business cases. Mentor student practitioner's in culturally responsive technical communication.

A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.

The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in technical communication aspects for the departments of Integrated Engineering, and Computer Information Science.

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate or terminal degree in English, Technical Communication, or Related Degree. (conferred on an official transcript by the date of appointment.)

Evidence of ability to effectively mentor undergraduate students in technical communication.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver curricula to improve student practitioners technical communication for Integrated Engineering and Computer Science both on campus and at additional locations.

Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated competence in technical editing or documentation.

Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position will support the technical communication needs for two of Minnesota State University, Mankatos project-based programs: Twin Cities Engineering and Computer Science. Twin Cities Engineering (TCE) is an award winning, ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering. It is an extended campus location leveraging a new, progressive approach to engineering education that uses project-based learning (PBL) for upper division students. Computer Science leverages a similar model on the main campus. In these programs, students who have who have completed approximately two years of prerequisite earn their upper division credits by completing four semesters of PBL experiences including significant technical communication with peers, faculty, project sponsors, and other constituents. The primary appointment for this position is anticipated to be in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology within the Departments of Integrated Engineering and Computer Information Science, with some teaching load dedicated to the Technical Communication program in the Department of English.
